Jill and the Beanstalk Infant CPR - TORONTO
Why Every Parent Should Know Infant CPR
Introduction
Imagine the unthinkable: your baby suddenly goes limp after choking on a toy piece, and you’re the only one nearby. Panic sets in, but with the right training, you’ll know exactly what to do. Infant CPR isn’t just a skill for medical professionals—it’s a lifesaving tool every parent, grandparent or caregiver should have in their back pocket.
The Stakes Are High
- 1 in 5 emergency calls for children involve respiratory distress or cardiac arrest.
- Nearly 90% of out-of-hospital pediatric cardiac arrests are fatal when no bystander CPR is performed.
- Quick action can double or triple a baby’s chance of survival.
Knowing CPR means you can bridge the gap between “something’s wrong” and the arrival of paramedics—the difference between tragedy and hope.
Quick Action Saves Lives
When an infant stops breathing or their heart stops, every second counts. Performing high-quality chest compressions and rescue breaths can:
- Maintain vital blood flow to the brain and heart
- Prevent permanent brain injury from lack of oxygen
- Buy precious time until professional help arrives
Research shows that immediate bystander CPR can increase survival rates by up to 40%—an enormous impact for simply having learned a few key steps.
