TV ROCK is Ulexite or hydrated sodium calcium borate hydroxide. It was named after its discoverer, the German chemist Georg Ludwig Ulex (1811-1883)—ulexite results from the evaporation of water in intermittent lakes. When cut across the grain with flat polished faces, the rock displays an image of the surface beneath it.
